With the faceplate painted we need to protect it from the main body color. For this use painters blue tape. The tape is easy to use, but must be applied only after the paint is completely dried. I applied my tape too soon and peeled off paint when removing the tape. Make sure when applying it that it is sealed to the helmet. Run your fingers along it to push out air bubbles and use an X-Acto blade to trim away excess. Be careful not to cut too deep when doing this, it is easy to damage the paint underneath. Take your time to make sure no areas of the faceplate are exposed. When applying the tape use the largest pieces possible. This will help when it comes time to remove it. Fiberglass can be nasty. If you handle it with bare hands or it gets on exposed skin it can be painful and dangerous. Wear a mask, eye protection, gloves, and long sleeves at this stage.
