About this deal

For full details on how to connect the subwoofer to your Minirig or phone and for the best ways to use it, please read the subwoofer user manual AND the Minirig user manual. A tip that is worth mentioning (and one that can be applied with whatever speaker you end up buying) is positioning your speaker for the best sound quality. With some of these competitors coming in at an equivalent or even lower price, it means that, in terms of performance for pound, we are left wanting more for a little less. It's much more robust, reliable and longer lasting than micro USB as the connector pins are larger and less delicate The sound is full and rich, with lots of detail and minimal distortion. Even when you push the speaker to its total volume, it sounds incredible and results in a slight clipping of the bass instead of completely degrading the sound.

Usually, when you see something as small as this compact device, it’s easy to assume that you’re going to miss out on functionality, sound stage, or volume. Although it’s unlikely you’ll get 100 hours all the time, there’s a good chance you won’t need to recharge the MiniRig 3 speakers too often between playing sessions. App Functionality Credit: Minirigs When you consider that you can daisy chain as many of these devices together as you want, the volume potential is astronomical. It sometimes does the job, but if feels clunky, and could do with an overhaul UX-wise – it’s poor on an iPad, for instance, defaulting to phone size and portrait orientation. Compared to similarly-priced products, such as the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom, it isn’t quite as insightful across the board. We’d like more texture to each instrument, so this speaker can really show off the shimmer of cymbals or the throbs of bass guitars.

Charging

Hooking together 2 Minirigs and the subunit makes a stand-alone 2.1 sound system that remains portable enough to take with you to parties and camping trips. It is an incredibly versatile, well-thought-out system and one that we think has been grossly overlooked by the audio community thus far. A. Yes, they will pair in wireless stereo and via aux cables. However, for the best stereo sound we recommend using two of the same products. Also, the Minirig 3 in high gain mode is 6db louder than all other Minirig products so there will be a volume level difference. In low gain, the volume levels are all the same. There is no “pairing” mode as such, as they are always pairable when switched on, and they can remember up to eight devices. In this respect I actually found them harder to use than other Bluetooth speakers, in that I sometimes had to actively pair them to my phone when I wanted to use them – turning them on wasn’t enough. I didn’t always need to and I suspect maybe I’m missing something, although I can’t figure out what!

To fully charge a Minirig 3 or Sub 3 from a power bank we would recommend using one rated to at least 9500mAh Although Bluetooth is available on these speakers, getting everything set up and working properly can be a real headache. There may be issues with lag and dropped connections to consider. Connectivity Credit: Minirigs This little device can deliver some sensational power, with 40w of RMS to ensure you fill a whole room in seconds. The main reason that the Minirigs sound so good comes down to the big single-unit driver on the inside. Almost all these other companies have taken the approach of creating multi-driver Bluetooth speakers, whereas Minirigs has opted for a single extremely high-end unit.
