About this deal

Hypertrophic scars are seen in approximately 50 percent of wounds after surgery and more than 50 percent of healed deep burns. They are generally red, raised and itchy and appear within the boundaries of wounds.

A silicone gel sheet is a soft, flexible, self-adhesive dressing that is applied over scars. It contains silicone. Silicone can help to improve the colour, height and texture of a scar. Silicone can also relieve itching and discomfort caused by a scar. How does it work? Mepiform consists of a polyurethane and viscose non-woven laminate covered with a soft silicone gel. Middelkoop et al found the use of Mepiform was associated with a significant improvement in hypertrophic scars in a study involving 12 patients.

How do I use a silicone gel sheet?

Avoid stretching when applying over joints. Mepiform should optimally be worn for 24 hours a day. Remove the dressing once per day for inspection and washing of the skin. The dressing can then be reapplied. Mepiform does not have to be washed/cleansed.

Should maceration or rash occur, remove the dressing and allow the skin to recover until the symptom has disappeared, then continue treatment gradually increasing therapy time. If the symptom persists, discontinue use and consult a physician for advice.
