About this deal

Launched in 2019, the Contrast range revolutionised miniatures painting. Now, the new colours span the entire spectrum, from eye-searing emeralds and yellows, to fiery reds and bold blues. We’re really spoilt for choice! To give us a hand exploring the new range, we asked Warhammer TV painting presenter Emma Robinson to provide us with ideas for using some of the new colours. Aeldari Emerald is a colour unlike any in the current Contrast range, giving you a brand new choice for a whole range of effects. Magos Purple and Shyish Purple were lighter Contrast paints, perfect for tinting and glazing . Out of the pot Luxion Purple provides a rich and luxurious layer.

The Skitarii have tiny waists, so I removed a lot of the Cadian bottom parts to make it all fit. I then needed to place slivers of plastic between the legs and torsos to make them a little taller. The joins are disguised with belts, grenades, and pouches I had in my bits box, and with bits of webbing I had clipped off the Cadians.** The heads are from Imperial Navy Breachers, which I happened to have lying around – providing an ornate, sophisticated look. Mission: Onslaught, Dawn of War. I deployed fairly centrally and far forwards, opponent put tac squads in the middle, then termies and dread on the flanks - I think this was their main big mistake. I put my objective in their DZ to the right flank, they put theirs in the middle of my DZ.Max: The Starborne are the cosmic cousins to the Coalesced. They’re still hulking reptilian warriors, but they’re infused with the energy of Azyr. To represent this, we painted some miniatures with a bright cerulean glow emanating from them, and we drew the rest of the palette from astronomical photography – lots of deep purples and dark blues.

After the destroyer's reaction. In my turn the terms and dread moved up to finish off the praetor and tacs - termie shooting killed the tacs, dread double 1'd the multimelta at the praetor (!), then both charged. Praetor challenged and I refused with my serge. Praetor killed a wounded termie, and wounded another with sword. Dread whiffed against WS6, the power weapons did nowt , however the last chainfist got a wound through, and a failed save meant a dead praetor. Calivers and all my tacs shot at the terms, felling another. WarCom: New to the Seraphon stable are the Raptadon and Aggradon mounts – how did you approach these units? The shrine-moon of Puceilles Beta maintains grand holo-glass memorials for each regiment it sends forth into the galaxy, praying for their martyrdom – these Puceilles Bannerets refuse to return home except as glorious relics.

All of the ropes and leather straps on the model, including the grip on the weapon and shield, were tidied up with Wraithbone, before getting a coat of Gore-Grunta Fur. You can also see my initial forays into AL in the army, namely the halved scheme on the destroyers. I'm loathe to repaint while there's other units to paint for the first time, so I'll probably finish them off then save them for another day. I think I've pulled the trigger fully on the metlaiic teal alphas, so I'll stop dallying with other schemes and go with that. Emma: Regally vibrant, Luxion Purple keeps a bright tone even in the darker areas of your miniatures – great for Hedonites of Slaanesh and the Emperor’s Children . This is my favourite purple Contrast of all time! The decision to suggest these colors was based on color theory and balancing the colors in a color combo: Bastiladon - Chameleon Skink - Coatl - Cold One Cavalry - Dread Saurian - Jungle Swarm - Kroxigor - Razordon - Red Crested Skink - Ripperdactyl Riders - Salamander - Saurus Oldblood - Saurus Warrior - Saurus Scar-Veteran - Slann Mage Priest - Skink Chief - Skink High Priest - Skink Priest - Skink Warrior - Stegadon - Temple Guard - Terradon Riders - Troglodon Emma’s Tzaangors have a vibrant, old-school colour scheme that uses Contrast for almost everything, from their pastel skin to their earthy horns – she’s even used layers of Contrast paint to give a metallic look to their golden weapons and trim.

James created a spectacular feathered rainbow on his Lord of Change by thinning his Contrast paints right down to a glaze consistency with Contrast Medium . Then he applied lots of thin layers onto his Greater Daemon, slightly overlapping layers of Celestium Blue , Dreadful Visage , Sigvald Burgundy , Karandras Green , and more to retain vibrant paint colours while building up a smooth, ‘wet blend’ gradient between each hue. Daniel Veress Destroyers - showstoppers. Both games now, if that rad missile hits, it kills. Also did well in melee with rending swords etc. Now they can take power weapons also, might have to make an assault squad up. I’m an adequate painter at best, but I’m pleased with the results. The cloaks and tunics are Altdorf Guard Blue , shaded with Drakenhof Nightshade , while the padding is all Kantor Blue . The metals are Retributor Armour shaded with Reikland Fleshshade , while I used Mechanicus Standard Grey everywhere else. Snakebite Leather is my favourite Contrast – perfect for one-coat leathers. My tip for hazard stripes when you don’t have a steady hand? Make sure Emma from the Warhammer TV painting team owes you a favour. Pylar Glacier creates the illusion of an icy surface with no hassle. Briar Queen Chill and Dreadful Visage live up to their names, making them ideal for spectral phantasms or smoky apparitions, and Mantis Warriors Green offers a luminous green-yellow that’s perfect for bolts of wyrd energy.Tacticals - not the best place for my hydran examplar, held ground and advanced well - they're called Taxticals for a reason, right? A rhino would have helped get them up table fast. Max: Narrative is at the heart of so many of our paint scheme decisions. For the Seraphon it came down to the distinction between the Coalesced and the Starborne. The new miniatures are the most lifelike and believable incarnation of the Seraphon to date, and they needed a paint scheme to match. Teal and turquoise are crucial when painting lizards, magic effects, and Space Marines like the Alpha Legion – and Kroxigor Scales fits alongside Leviadon Blue and Akhelian Green to give you even more choice.
