About this deal

Sentenced to Eternal Torment (Triple, Scriptor Mortis): 6 damage to an enemy if a dice roll is lower or equal than the current round. Finally, Arcane Tome from the core rules is not a bad option, giving you another wizard on a hero you’re likely already taking. Nighthaunt have a fair few nasty spells, and even with Olynder, Reikenor and a Guardian of Souls in the same list (probably unlikely), you’re still probably wanting to cast another spell. Look outside the box that is this excellent battletome, and you might just find some still very useful basic enhancements in the core rules. Just for fun here we present few thematic warbands, meant more for fun or narrative context than for competitive play. Note that in narrative play you need to complete a quest that allows you to recruit a Hero before being able to add him to your roster. The Dreadblade Harrows are the officers beneath the Knights of Shrouds. In life, each of these wights watched their leader’s betrayal, neither helping nor hindering. Even for Nighthaunts, Deadblade Harrows are especially discorporate, phantasmal figures who can disappear and reappear at will. They are the Knights of Regret, full of bitter recrimination, who in battle serve as bodyguards and lieutenants or are despatched as outriders. Rearing upon their spectral steeds, they vanish into wisps of mist only to gallop out of thin air elsewhere to carry out the most unchivalrous commands – culling the vulnerable, cutting off retreating warriors, and other heinous tasks.

Used mostly in vast groups as vanguard of Nagash’s armies, small detachments are extremely useful for delicate tasks thanks to their ethereal status and resistance to damage. Their half measures have been duly rewarded with a curse in death, for they are compelled to serve their treacherous lords eternally. Endless Spell

While the term encompasses hundreds of different kinds of spirit, Nighthaunt all share a few common features that bind them together. Most are created in one of two ways – either soul-cursed to eternal torment at the moment of death or raised from their slumber by the amethyst magics of Nagash. Spectral Summon(Triple, all Leaders): Set up again any fighter taken down with as many wounds left as the value of the ability.

We may have been a bit harsh on Nagash all of, uh, three paragraphs ago, but we really don’t think he has competitive viability at the top tables. He’s a model that’s very binary with victory almost decided at the list building step; if your army can solve the problem of him existing, you win, and if you can’t, you lose; there’s not a lot of tactical nuance or gameplay here. Bringing Nagash to a friendly game can lead to some real feels-bad moments when your opponent can’t solve him and you take off half their army, or they kill him round two and you’ve flat out just lost the game. We love Nagash at Goonhammer, but we’d happily see him reduced in power to increase in survivability and fun for everyone at the table. The new edition of Warcry is with us and being a Nighthaunt player in Age of Sigmar I naturally wanted to take a look at their compendium rules to see which units I would be fielding in my games. However, with a whopping fifteen hero options, ten regular options and the two thralls (and the two monsters), I found it all very daunting and not really knowing where to start I took to the old reliable route (SPREADSHEETS!) to try and give me some insight into the faction.

Restricted to Nagash and Nighthaunt Hero Wizards only, here we see a few changes from the old lore, most notably and regretfully the loss of Reaping Scythe , most commonly seen on Nagash to allow him to reroll hits and wounds with Alakanash. Most of these spells have increased in cast value compared to previous versions, probably to take into account the fact that Nagash is a core part of the army now and casting on a 4 with +3 to cast was a bit silly.
