About this deal

Hey,’ said Sammy, ‘are you there yet? I’m sorry, there’s a problem with the train at Didcot and I’m not going to be home for another hour at least.’ In that case, maybe you should find out her name. She’s lovely, really friendly. We had a great chat while she was watering her hanging baskets outside the shop.’

MY REVIEW: Hurrah! The new year can now officially begin, because we have a brand spanking new read from Jill Mansell to devour. It just went to show, you never knew when one seemingly insignificant action might cause another that was capable of changing your life."

Now read the opening chapter of Jill’s latest book…

What? I don’t have a wife. Never been married.’ He regarded her with fresh suspicion. ‘How can you not know that?’

I love Jill Mansell’s sweet, heartfelt romcoms and I’m looking forward to read more of her works in near future. I love a story which features a cantankerous character and eighty-year-old Edgar was the perfect complement to Lou’s sweet demeanour. It was a joy to watch the relationship between these two develop into something more than employer and employee. This is my first book by Jill Mansell, but it certainly won’t be my last. I did have someone. She left, same as all the rest of them.’ He pointed at an area beneath a chair. ‘You missed a bit.’ Switching off the ignition, she ran round to open the passenger door and helped him out before collecting his shopping from the boot. Pure escapism . . . A simply gorgeous read that I would highly recommend' ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐If you like flushed out reads with three-dimensional protagonists, and emotionally meaningful love stories w/ a dash of smut and spice: this book is not for you. I loved every second I spent reading this book. I’ll take this to the newsagent’s and copy it out onto one of the postcards so it’ll slot into the message board in the window.’ She dropped the folded sheet of paper into her bag. ‘What’s the name of the woman who runs the shop?’ No worries, I’m fine. I’m in someone’s kitchen,’ Lou said cheerfully. ‘We met in the supermarket car park, then he broke his glasses so I had to drive him home.’

It wasn’t a retirement home, then. Nor, from the look of the place, had it been divided into separate apartments.I absolutely loved this story from beginning to end. We are treated a few viewpoints which gave us some rather interesting threads.

I’m not typically a romance reading kinda girl, but this sounded so cute I had to give it a shot and thankfully, it lived up to my expectations. Super cute and perfect for a sit down with a cup of tea. I love this author, and this book certainly didn’t disappoint. We are taken on a wonderfully heart-warming journey of love and friendships with the main character Lou. Lou is visiting her childhood friend, Sammy when she bumps into grumpy 80-year-old, Edgar Allsopp. Edgar isn’t the easiest man to get on with, but he seems to take a begrudging shine to Lou and makes her an offer she can’t refuse. I loved Lou’s character and connected with her straight away. I’ve worked as a carer and have come across many grumpy old men like Edgar in my time and knew right from their first meeting that they would end up being friends. Op zoek naar een baan, woonruimte en wat rust in haar leven, loopt ze per toeval tegen de brompot van het dorpje Foxwell aan wanneer ze haar beste vriend Sammy bezoekt. This is a wonderful story at the heart of it is love and the many forms it takes. Lou thought her life was going well after building up her life after an abusive marriage ended in tragedy. Then all of a sudden she needs to find a new home but at least she has her job. When the job goes she is upset but understands. She is a caregiver a role that she fell into and loved. Do you mean Edgar Allsopp?’ Sammy started to laugh. ‘Whoa! Are you telling me you’re at Walton House?’
