About this deal

There aren't many electric pizza ovens around that are for use at home, but the Ooni Volt 12 and Sage Pizzaiolo are examples that might be a good fit for those who are keen to cook artisan-style pizza without the need for outdoor space.

Cheese - There are so many options when it comes to cheese on a pizza. We went with a simple mature cheddar and shredded mozzarella to add creaminess and flavour. You could swap them for some goats cheese and parmesan. We like to use mature cheddar or another strong tasting cheese, as the stronger the flavour, the less you need to use on the pizza. The oven is generally placed on top of the barbecue, once it’s lit, and then left to heat up. These devices tend to be sturdy and will fit comfortably on top of your barbecue. They tend to take around 10 minutes to heat up properly. The materials they are often made of are designed to insulate the heat effectively, whilst circulating air appropriately. Our ovens are versatile, fun and really easy to use, making it ideal to transport to outdoor events such as camping, days out, festivals and parties.

You could easily use half the cheese in this recipe to lighten it up a little. If you are doing that, then it is even more important to use a mature cheddar, as it has a stronger flavour. Variations Bristle brush Especially useful for wood-fired ovens where ash is likely, a tough bristle brush is handy for removing ash from the pizza stone ready for cooking, as well as for cleaning out your oven after use.

Though store-bought crust is convenient, I suggest using homemade pizza dough for the BEST flavor. You could also use these toppings on whole wheat pizza dough instead. The bake time is exactly the same. Homemade pizza crust is so much easier than you think. Homemade Pizza Dough Compact and easy to assemble, our ovens feature foldable legs, removable chimney (wood fired model) and a FREE12 inch pizza peel to get your pizzas safely from oven to table. It’s the ideal oven for outdoor events, camping, festivals and great days out with food. Rotate it regularly The strongest heat usually comes from one direction, especially in gas and wood-fired ovens. You'll want to rotate the pizza a few times during cooking to make sure it cooks evenly. Once every 30 seconds is a good rule of thumb, but keep an eye on it while it cooks. Turning peel This smaller paddle has a rounded edge to help you slide it under one side of the pizza and turn it while it's cooking, without the need to take it out. This peel is a handy tool, but it's not essential like the standard pizza peel.Smoky– Where there’s BBQ, there’s gotta be a smoky twang of flavour. Here we inject smokiness, without the pizza going near a smoker! BBQ pizza ovens work as a pizza oven but on a more domestic scale. They are affordable for the general public and not a pain to bring into your home. A large-scale pizza oven requires a builder and taking the time and effort to find the right space for it. The commercial-sized ovens also require a substantial amount of fuel to keep it hot and cooking. Material – Most pizza ovens are made from steel or stainless steel. This material is a great heat conductor and proves to achieve an even cook or bake with your food. Hand-stretched pizza with caramelised red onions and crumbly feta Made Without Wheat gluten-free margherita pizza (V) Heat-proof gloves Getting up close and personal with an oven that can burn at 500°C comes with its risks. Wearing heat-proof gloves will help keep you safe while adding fuel, and if necessary, when launching and rotating pizzas.

This can result in pizzas with very crispy bases and underdone tops. You might need to use a pizza peel to hold your pizza aloft in the oven for a while to help the top catch up with how well done the base is. Electric pizza ovens

Method

BBQ Sauce: My husband isn’t a fan of too much BBQ sauce, but I love sauce in each bite. The middle ground is about 1/3 cup of BBQ sauce. Add more if you love extra sauce. Those who want to use charcoal should go for a wood-fired oven and introduce a few briquettes to a mostly wood-based fire. BBQ pizza ovens BBQ sauce - This is where so much of the flavour of the pizza comes from, so you want it to be the best BBQ sauce possible. We made our own Homemade BBQ Sauce, and it's so simple to make. You can use a store bought one, however go for a good quality one, as you will be able to taste the difference. It adds plenty of extra flavour and can help to bring a slow-burning stability to the heat the oven, but charcoal burns so slowly that you can’t easily top up the fire with more of it when the heat dies down, so it shouldn't be used on its own. Reheating Instructions: Reheat leftover cold pizza in the microwave or cover with aluminum foil and bake on a lined baking sheet/pizza pan in a 350°F (204°C) oven until warmed. (About 10 minutes for slices, 15–20 minutes for whole pizza.)

Cheese - We used a mixture of cheddar and mozzarella. Use an extra mature cheddar, as the stronger flavour means you can use less of it, making it a lower in calories pizza. Thermometer – It’s quite essential that you can get your equipment with a built-in thermometer. This will help you monitor temperature and time your cooking accordingly.Meanwhile, make the sauce. Heat the oil in a saucepan over a very low heat, add the garlic and chilli flakes and cook gently for 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, sugar and salt and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, then remove from the heat and leave to cool. Preheat oven to 475°F (246°C). Allow it to heat for at least 15–20 minutes as you shape the pizza in the next step. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well. Lightly grease a large baking sheet or pizza pan with 1/2 Tablespoon of olive oil. Sprinkle lightly with cornmeal, which gives the crust extra crunch and flavor. Pizza ovens are often billed as portable, so we weigh them and carry them a short distance, taking bulkiness and comfort into account. Fuel type: some will be gas-fuelled, others need wood, or it may be a multi-fuel. Indoor pizza ovens plug into the mains so don't need any other means of generating heat.
