This time it’s Corsair Vengeance 32GB kit rated at DDR5-6000 and equipped with the AMD EXPO profile. AMD recommends 6000MT/s for optimal performance and compatibility, so it’s no surprise that the leading RAM manufacturers are optimizing their AMD memory series for this specific speed. The Corsair Vengeance DDR5-4800 kit isn't the fastest you'll come across but it's one of the best options for a budget DDR5 system right now. For testing Microsoft Flight Simulator I'm using the latest DirectX 12 version and here we're only seeing mild gains in the range of low single-digit percentages, so nothing to get excited about.

Starting with Assassin's Creed Valhalla, we see a 13% to 15% performance improvement with newer DDR5 memory, taking the average frame rate from 121 fps at 1080p, to 137 fps. But more impressive than that was the 17% performance boost seen at 1440p when looking at the 1% lows with a 12% boost to the average frame rate. The Crucial Ballistix name is no more, and this bare PCB kit won't win any beauty contests or set speed records, but as a set and forget kit for an alt-tabbing gamer or workstation user, it's definitely worth a look. As expected, the margins close up at 4K where the GPU becomes the key limiting factor, but even so I was surprised to see a 9% boost to the 1% low and a 13% uplift for the average frame rate. So DDR5 is offering a clear performance advantage in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Performance in Hitman 3 gains next to nothing when using DDR5, we see only a very minor increase at 1080p, with basically nothing at 1440p and 4K. Though I have to say, I am not personally a fan of RGB, but I will admit to a little bit of guilty pleasure having a play with a full set of synchonized RGB components.I’m pleasantly surprised about the temperatures of the Corsair Vengeance memory. Sensor readings show lower temperatures than on most competitive series. It even looks better when we compare the heatsink size. Corsair uses low-profile heatsinks, so we won’t have any problems installing this memory in smaller computers or under larger CPU coolers without the risk of overheating. 61°C in a long stability test is a very good result, as we could see memory kits reaching over 70°C at not much higher voltages. With PCIe 5.0 being widely adopted by computing components such as graphics cards and SSDs, having DDR5 RAM means your PC can make better use of the added bandwidth available. This means that, ultimately, some of the best PC games will run smoother and at higher FPS as a result. Is single or dual-channel DDR5 RAM better? Yes, if you own or want to invest in a high-performance platform. Intel’s 12th/13th Gen Core (code named Alder Lake/Raptor Lake) and AMD’s Ryzen 6000/7000 Series (code named Rembrandt/Raphael) are high-performance platforms bringing users more CPU cores than ever before. Here are two reasons why DDR5 is a better choice for these platforms:

CL/CAS Latency - Column Access Strobe Latency is the delay between the memory controller requesting data from the RAM and the available data; the first number listed in a kit's timings. Should you buy it anyway? Not if you’ve got a low latency DDR4-3200 or 3600 kit you shouldn’t. But, if you’ve got a gaming rig with equally high-end components, then you’ll want a kit like the G.Skill to bring out the best of your system. AMD's Zen 4-based AM5 motherboards only support DDR5, while Intel's platforms do still offer DDR4 versions of their motherboards. Will DDR5 work on a DDR4 motherboard? In Time Spy Extreme, we can still see quite the performance gain at faster RAM settings, but it’s not as visible as in the Time Spy test. Unigine Superposition Unigine SuperpositionADATA did a solid job with the non-RGB Lancer RAM modules, and the XPG Lancer RGB kits are no different. They're sleek with a premium look and feel. Both heatsinks have XPG branding and a DDR5 badge, just to remind you that you're using the current best thing. Details about the extent of our regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority are available from us on request. The Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 EXPO memory kit is clearly worth our recommendation as it’s fast, stable, looks well, and is inexpensive. This memory kit should satisfy all AMD users, even those most demanding. The answer depends on what speeds and latencies we're talking about. Games tend to be sensitive to latency, where lower is better. A good low-latency DDR4 kit is still a viable gaming option. However, the real-world performance differences are small and non-existent in GPU-limited scenarios, which is usually the case unless you're chasing very high frames per second.
