About this deal

Disc Five – Bonus Disc (Previously Released on The Bootleg Series Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased 1989–2006) Well, that's my cue -- here's my compilation of all the clues dropped by The Source in Rolling Stone articles over the last decade or so. Also included are any other interesting quotes about the general philosophy and the future of the Bootleg Series, a possible streaming future for Bob's archives, the role of Tulsa -- and even the possibility of a Chronicles, Vol. 2. This time, I've also left in ALL the references to everything that has been hinted at, so we can marvel at how much stuff has actually been released during this Golden Age for Dylan fans. Enjoy!

Guitar, Mandoguitar [Mando-Guitar], Electric Guitar [Firebird], Acoustic Guitar [Martin 0018], Electric Guitar [Gretsch Gold Top], Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar – Daniel Lanois The final versions are a Hollywood story, in comparison to the impossibility of shielding himself from real life that Dylan is actually experiencing. And only truly communicated in his earlier versions.

CHRONICLES VOL. 2: Simon & Schuster also plans to publish Chronicles: Volume Two, but don't expect Dylan to deliver a manuscript anytime soon. "It'd be wonderful to have it in the next few years," says Rosenthal. "But we'll get it when we get it." (March 2005) The 2022 remix of Time Out of Mind is sharper, crisper and live-sounding; the performances are more intimate and immersive. Sean Hannam Kreps, Daniel (January 11, 2023). "Bob Dylan Unearths Original Version of 'Not Dark Yet' for Upcoming 'Fragments' Set". Rolling Stone . Retrieved January 28, 2023. SUPPER CLUB: A CD/DVD set of Dylan's famous 1993 stand at New York's Supper Club was nearly released (in 2010) instead of the Witmark Demos. "I decided I liked the story of the Witmark Demos better than the Supper Club," says the source. "That will definitely come out on CD and DVD sometime soon, though." (August 2010) Billboard Japan Hot Albums – Week of February 1, 2023". Billboard Japan (in Japanese) . Retrieved February 1, 2023.

In early 1996, Dylan, who had not released an album of original compositions since the 1990 LP Under The Red Sky, began working on new songs. From August to October, he went to Teatro Studio in Oxnard/CA with Daniel Lanois, who had produced his 1989 album Oh Mercy, to record demos for a possible new LP In a 2020 song, Dylan proclaimed, "I Contain Multitudes." The truth of the matter is, he always did. There have been unconfirmed rumors that The Bootleg Series may be winding down after 30+ years and seventeen volumes. Put simply, "Say it ain't so." Fragments proves, once again, that there are still ample treasures to be mined in the Bob Dylan vaults.

Austriancharts.at – Bob Dylan – The Bootleg Series Vol. 17 - Fragments - Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996-1997)" (in German). Hung Medien. Retrieved February 8, 2023.The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series takes a fresh look at Time Out of Mind, Dylan’s mid-career masterpiece, celebrating the album and its enduring impact 25 years after its original release on September 30, 1997. Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996-1997): The Bootleg Series Vol.17follows the evolution of songs written for the album, from intimate early incarnations in the previously unreleased 1996 Teatro sessions featuring Dylan (vocals, guitar, and piano), Daniel Lanois (guitar and organ), Tony Garnier (bass) and Tony Mangurian (drums and percussion) through incandescent live renditions (also previously unreleased) showcasing Dylan and his touring ensemble channeling the songs on-stage from 1998-2001. With that in mind, the first disc in this 5CD offering is a new 2022 remix of the original release, by engineer, Michael Brauer, who says he was trying to capture something that had more of a feel of what was going on in the room, with less additional processing. To be fair, with the new version, Brauer has nailed it – the remix is sharper, crisper and live-sounding; the performances are more intimate and immersive. It’s like you’re sat in the studio with Dylan and his band.

a b Greene, Jayson (January 30, 2023). "Bob Dylan: Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996–1997): The Bootleg Series, Vol. 17 Album Review". Pitchfork . Retrieved January 31, 2023. Michael Brauer's new remix of the album tones down Daniel Lanois' hazy, gauzy production to present the songs in a manner closer to the way Dylan and the band performed them in the studio. His voice is front and center, with the effects applied by Lanois largely removed; the accompaniment is always in sync but never intrusive or flashy. For those familiar with the album, the stripped-down sound is jarring. Happily, this remix doesn't replace the original (which is still available physically and digitally) but exists side-by-side as a different view onto Dylan's mysterious masterwork. Because he has seen and known the true end of all attachment -Pain. CD 2 and 3 – both made up of outtakes and alternate versions – are where things start to get really interesting. Considering the often sombre and spectral mood of Time Out of Mind, it’s fascinating to hear how in some cases the different takes are much more upbeat and lighter than the final recordings.
