About this deal

Packed solid with freestyle wit, real bestie charm, and the everyday diverse glory of New York City. This humorous, first-person narrative with a conversational, almost conspiratorial, tone will captivate readers. Corrine then essentially blackmails Henri into helping her get a social life (to look good on college applications) in exchange for keeping quiet about his fake company.

Needing to use it like a verb because it means the difference in your survival, in the opportunities you would never have otherwise, and how necessary it is for some people. The story ended with Henri realizing what he did wrong, what he has to do and what consequences he has to experience and I think thats realistic and beautiful. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I really wish that we could have had a dual POV with Corinne and Henri because I think it would have added so much more to the story.

I felt really stressed reading out because the foreshadowing is there but I kept hoping it wouldn’t actually happen.I’ll admit I was annoyed by one thing Halti did and it almost made me stop reading, but after a bit I realized how someone in his position might do the same. The only thing that redeems the book is the sporadic humor and surprisingly insightful commentary about nepotism, poverty, and how first-generation immigrants must tirelessly work for the American dream. I do wish there was more of Evie as after the party, their relationship falls off and Evie disappears.

He never actually talked bad about anyone, but this way of thinking make it seems like he’s not genuine with all his smiles and conversations. Considering his family’s lower economic status and the limited job opportunities for high schoolers, I understand his reasoning behind this method of circumventing his disadvantages. I especially enjoyed the way Henri's ambition was described as well and contrasted to Corrinne and her mother. I don't really have many complaints because this story is written in a way where you know what's happening, but you also know that it could have been written better. As I was reading the book, it felt to me like there were consequences to some of his actions but not to others, which was something that threw me off because it felt like an inconsistency in the story. I also think a lot of my issues came from the fact that a lot of what I was being told by the author didn’t match what I was being shown. Although it was still predictable at times and I did question some of our narrators actions and the way they were handled, I enjoyed it a lot and it was the light and fluffy contemporary I needed! Charming As A Verb is a cute little romance filled with dogs, privileged students, and college stress.
