About this deal

For instance, it’s irritating and a little boring that Steph’s wife’s only personality trait is being into astrology. Adrienne Brodeur (Wild Game) is a master when it comes to writing about family dysfunction and her portrayal of a bi-polar, narcissistic father and his flawed but fully human children is spot-on. But the time frame of this engaging, neatly plotted novel distinguishes it, serving as the emotional underpinning of the action.

As the Goodreads synopsis notes you can also tell how very familiar our author is with the setting, feeling as if you are there. Jenny is now conflicted over where to place her loyalty, and equally at odds over what she has become. And the plot is a captivating tale about life, loss, heartache, guilt, love, secrets, revelations, acceptance, familial drama, friendship, hope, mental illness, forgiveness, and introspection. The family dynamics are interesting, and Brodeur does an excellent job of developing all five of her POV characters—Adam, Abby, Ken, Steph, and Ken’s wife Jenny—into characters the reader can sympathize and empathize with, even as we start to get a clearer image of their damage. As Adam’s special birthday celebration approached, the tension between the family members began to escalate.

The new doctor acknowledged Adam only cursorily, opting to study his electronic patient chart first—mistake number one. Newly the birth mother of Jonah, Steph wants to connect with the Gardner family, now that a recently revealed secret has come crashing to the fore, but how to best proceed?Jopa hirviökoulun opettaja turhautuu ja lähettää hänet kotiin, koska pikku ihmissudesta ei koskaan tule kunnollista hirviötä. He exhaled audibly and resumed his list of banal recommendations: limit stress, exercise daily, eat a balanced diet. But when the trio go mudlarking in the riverbank, they find a creature unlike anything else … Granny Mo might have set out to look for a pet, but now she’s got a monster on her hands and it’s about to get up to some mischief! Sure, it gives them something to bond over, but I’m just very, very over it and it’s a primary reason why I so often stick to YA and fantasy… there are fewer pregnancies over there. There was no character development and the individuals were all just as shitty as they were when the book started.
