My Dad’s A Birdman by David Almond, with music by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, was performed at the Young Vic theatre, London, from 25th November, 2010, to 1st January, 2011. A charming, gently optimistic fable about human longings that runs at 70 minutes and is aimed at five to eight-year-olds. Arianna is a six-year-old girl whose normal life was one day interrupted by her dad being in an accident and losing one of his legs.

And watching it all is Lizzie, missing her mam and looking after her dad and thinking how beautiful the birds are.

Although she hadn’t drunk alcohol in all that time the damage had been done and she died of cancer of the liver aged forty-one. This sensitively written picture book explores the experience of having a parent in prison from a child’s point of view.

Of course, even though many of us have been saying this for years, it took a patient's death to get something done about it. I hope you'll give them a try, but be prepared — you might just get requests for "those yummy stuffed mushrooms" from here on out. My Dad’s New Legs” is an inspiring and reassuring story to share with young minds about unexpected change and adapting to a new way of living. Andy and Jon are joined by Sam from Southern Cars in Manchester, a classic car dealership originally started by Sam's father 50 years ago.He also occasionally gets some support from his kindly paternal grandmother, who takes surprisingly little interest in Michael's political career, preferring instead to focus on the achievements of her other son and her grandchildren. He was opinionated, a voracious reader, an elaborate storyteller, and someone who battled with alcoholism and secrets.

Launched in 2021, My Dad’s In Prison aims to create a collection of books for children of different ages. Some of our lovely Lancashire relatives came over to visit Mum, and us, today - they had been planning to come in January but couldn't because of the snow. I enjoyed the selection of questions, they really got me reminiscing on things I hadn’t thought about for a long time.For the ones we gave away to loved ones, I included a sticker featuring the blueprint of his study, with an X marking the spot where the book had been located.
