About this deal

The roof or loft vents require a breeze to pull the moisture out of the loft, so, on calm days, you may experience more condensation. There are different types of tile vents, each needing specific positioning on a roof to work effectively.

When I worked as a roofing contractor, I would install dozens of loft and roof vents each year, sometimes hundreds. The water literally ran down the felt and dripped off the beams, mould was starting to form and it smelt damp and musty. As we heat our homes, more hot air is trapped under the roof space thanks to improved loft insulation. Vent ridge with sleeve fitted together with pipe adapter for extractor fan How Many Vents are Needed to Ventilate my Loft? This can often be remedied quickly and easily if your loft has a traditional lapped membrane or roofing felt behind the tiles. Only to find that they had been installed into the PVC, but the soffit board behind it hadn’t been drilled through. Pictures show that clearly - day 1 of installing these vents with some very wet areas on the north side of roof and same side in 4 days, almost completely dry. You should ensure that the opening of felt laps on the property will not adversely increase the wind uplift load on the tiles/slates or the driving rain resistance of the roof, for more information see BS 5534:2003, 5.

This gap should be about 50 – 75mm wide and will usually have a meshed grill within it stopping insects and birds getting in.However, when the loft is cold (from late autumn into winter and spring), the underside of the roofing felt and the timbers will be cold. Job was done in about 30min, very simple, only problem was to reach the right area, so nothing to do with the product itself. When used in combination with proper ventilation materials and permeable roof coverings, roof lap vents are an effective tool for reducing condensation, providing adequate protection to your home.

Daniel has installed external roof vents to dozens of homes and also fitted loft lap vents to his own property to alleviate condensation. Well it’s true and I know because I worked as a roofer for 17 years and have fitted this product to hundreds of lofts but you don’t need to pay for a roofer. If you're interested BS 5250:2021 - Management of moisture in buildings makes for an interesting read! If you’ve got condensation issues in your loft it’s now relatively easy to resolve by adding additional loft ventilation. This should be clear of insulation (or anything else for that matter) so that air can flow up into the loft space, circulate and then out the other side removing any moisture by cooling warm air down before it hits a cold surface. When combined with existing roof space ventilation, fitting evenly spaced lap vents on both sides of the loft will fix most loft condensation problems. Regardless of what type of ventilation your loft has or what type you intend to add it’s important to make sure that you have good cross ventilation. Ridge tile vents are placed on the ridge, at the very peak of the roof to allow warm air to escape rather than condense in the roof space. Despite featuring extractor fans in kitchens and particularly bathrooms which create the most moisture that disposes of some of this moisture outside, inevitably some will get through the ceiling or rise through the loft hatch if it does not have a good seal and get into the loft. Condensation forms in colder conditions, and it could be that you only entered the loft when it was warm, and none was present.
