About this deal

Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. It was so sweet to pull this off my shelf and read one of my favourite children’s author’s autobiography. THE ILLUSTRATED MUM was chosen as British Children's Book of the Year in 1999 and was winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Award 2000.

As the fourth Children's Laureate (2005-2007) she promoted the importance of sharing books, and reading aloud together.

From the very first story she wrote, "Meet the Maggots", it was clear that this little girl had a very vivid imagination. I would really like to know about the adult years of this great author, but that is of course not what this book is about. For me though I did find it quite slow to get through, it was a struggle as the topics were so vague that just as you were getting into one it would switch. Jacqueline is one of the nation’s favourite authors, and her books are loved and cherished by young readers not only in the UK but all over the world.

I Have only read one of her other books, but I think I can still say that this book is very true to her fictional style. Jacqueline Wilson takes a look back at her own childhood in this captivating story of friendships, loneliness, books, toys, parents and much more. I would rate it 10/10 if you liked auto-biographies and info, but for me I would rate it a positive 5/10. However for me I was just left disappointed, the book is obviously meant for children (I mean why wouldn't it be, she is a children's author) but I just found that it didn't go into enough detail for it to be enjoyable.

I think this book is really good not just because i love jacquelinwe wilson because it starts right at the beginning when she was born and to where she is now. Although she relates many cosy stories of life in post-war London, all was not rosy for young Jacky - as an only child she dealt with her parents' unhappy marriage alone. Lots of Jacqueline Wilson's characters are well-known and well-loved by thousands of readers: Hetty Feather, Ruby and Garnet, Pearl and Jodie, Elsa, Lily and, of course, the brilliant Tracy Beaker! As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her! LOVE LESSONS has been longlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2006 and is on the short list for the Long Novel section of the Highland Children's Book Award.
