A little of this is enough to get the point across, I think, and I understand why there needed to be demonstrations of how soul-sapping life in town is for both Cooper and Peter, in different ways. But alongside this, I felt there needed to be 'something' going on, something to tie the story together - a rise and fall of tension, interesting plot events. While the opening is stunning, the ending felt rushed and heavy-handed, because the whole middle section of the book seemed to be wasted in directionless sketches of ideas that didn't come together.As a left-wing, anti-capitalist person this book was right up my street, I found myself highlighting passages that I agreed with incredibly often. After all, when we have nothing but the land and nature, modern society really doesn't make much sense. This book challenges the work-driven prisons we have created for ourselves when we could experience so much more. Timberdark is a beautiful, emotional and powerful read. This book seems to sit on the outskirts of a genre, it's part zombie novel, part supernatural-ish western, and part light horror. While the pacing of this book is much slower than the first, it really seems to work for this story. In a way, things have settled down, and Peter and Cooper are now navigating some of the more mundane of life's issues. If you’re looking to make a dark wood statement — particularly for the outdoors — charred timber is guaranteed to lend any project a highly-unique, daring touch. Darkening light woods

Did you know that dark hardwood flooring is actually usually warmer underfoot? As well as this, dark-tone timbers don’t naturally show dirt as easily and are resistant to wear and tear — making them very child and pet friendly indeed. In terms of hardening the floor, you are limited by the natural hardness of the timber. Most pine species will tend to be of low to moderate hardness. There are no floor finishes that will improve that situation that I’m aware of. I would recommend that you make sure that your furniture have soft pads on its feet and if possible, have a bigger foot. This will spread the weight over a larger area so decrease the likelihood of marking. Fabric furniture pads are available at most hardware stores. For the best effect, we’d always recommend going for the real deal, however — a naturally dark species like Walnut or Wenge!
