About this deal

Oh, I know, it was a terrible experience with that Charles,” her mother said. “You’ll find a better man in time.”

He did not say that it was actually rather comforting to hear it again. It was a tale that had been told often to himself and Lucie, who had adored it when she was young—Will, following his heart, dashing to the rescue of their mother, who he did not yet know loved him, too. The first 50% of this book was so bad that I considered dnfing and giving it a one-star rating. I admit that it got better during the last 30%. That's the only reason it's getting two stars from me. i loved the way matthew’s alcoholism was dealt with, though! his dependency was shown so very clearly and so were his steps taken to overcome that and i loved the portrayal of that. i just also wanna clarify that i don’t blame matthew for any part of the drama between cordelia and james, bc that was between them alone. it wasn’t matthew’s fault he ended up falling in love with her. 🤧 Mathew deserved better. He didn’t need the love drama. I mean my dude is running off with HIS PARABATAI’S WIFE?? His story could have gone another way and i felt it was lazy of Cassie to include him in this love triangle drama. It was very strange to have heard tales of Magnus all James’s life, and now to be traveling in close quarters with him. What he’d learned in their days of travel was that despite his elaborate costumes and theatrical airs, which had alarmed several innkeepers, Magnus was surprisingly calm and practical.

I understand this is because the plot follows a new generation of Shadowhunters while keeping the book more YA to focus on the teens…but STILL enough said 🤭 i ended up liking them so much more than expected, even though they weren’t exactly communicating either. The casts were all beautifully written and developed. The Merry thieves were a unique assemble with Beautiful, Charming (and Sad)Matthew, Charismatic James, Pure and Energetic Christopher (Kit) and Tall Brooding Thomas. Cordelia longs to protect James but is torn between a love for James she has long believed hopeless, and the possibility of a new life with Matthew. Nor can her friends help—ripped apart by their own secrets, they seem destined to face what is coming alone.

James and Cordelia must save London—and their marriage—in this conclusion to the Last Hours series from author Cassandra Clare. What even happens in this trilogy? I have no idea how a trilogy from such a good author, who btw wrote The Infernal Devices (TID), can go so wrong. The book was published nearly a year later than initially planned [10] due to Covid-19 related publishing delays [11] [12] and resulting supply chain issues. [13] so i get that christopher had to die. but did it have to happen in that unfeeling way? yes, there was an interlude signifying the “grieving” period of everyone but it wasn’t all that realistic. all of them seemed to be more torn up about losing james & matthew to belial tbh and no one except grace even seemed to feel much for him!! that was how i knew the characterizations were all wrong, with that part of the book. thomas was apparently christopher’s closest companion and yet grace felt more for christopher than he did — make it make sense. The darkness was not only the interior of her mind. She had thought it was, at first—the familiar darkness that came before sleep brought the vivid colors of dreams. But this darkness was a place. It would only be years later when Malcolm found out what truly happened to her. Heartbroken by Annabel’s murder, Malcolm became obsessed with raising her from the dead.
