although they had a lot of back and forth through majority of this book + time skips, i felt their connection.This is a true enemies-to-lovers story in that the two MCs are huge rivals on the ice while fucking each other's brains out off the ice. The way he was obsessed with Shane’s freckles -and Shane, in general- since the beginning and kept fooling himself saying he was only into the forbidden aspect of it.

Ilya kissed his dumb mouth and swallowed his stupid little sighs and felt his annoying fingers in his hair. They're great characters: Shane who is far more open and honest than Ilya, the all-American/Canadian kid, but Ilya, with his wicked sense of humour and also great honesty and kindness who hides so much. It’s impressive and for that so incredibly romantic that they held on to that impossible thing between them for all these years.

Enemies to lovers is so often done rather quickly and I’m left wondering where the actual being-enemies-part went. Tor does such a great job with the narration, the characters have a distinctive voice and the accent is well done. These two MCs are so well written, so well developed and the chemistry they have is out of this world.
